Welcome to TAG
What should I expect my child to do in their classes?
Preschool classes will focus on developmentally appropriate motor and cognitive skills while introducing beginner gymnastics elements. See our preschool info sheet for additional info.
“Big Gym” classes will alternate between events each week while working on level appropriate progressions, skills, and strength work. See our eval sheet for more info.
Appropriate Attire?
For our ladies, a leotard and shorts or leggings (optional) or a tight tank top. No mid drift showing attire please! For our gentlemen, shorts and a tucked in t-shirt. No socks!
Hair must be kept out of the face. If it will not fit in a ponytail, it must be pulled back away from the face in some way.
Please remove any jewelry as this can be dangerous for the athlete and coach.
Proper Hygiene and Deodorant – Please make sure your child has washed their hands before attending practice. If they’ve been playing outside, please make sure their feet are also clean. If your child is of appropriate age, please make sure they apply deodorant before class begins.
Athlete Progression?
If you have a question or concern about your child’s progression, please reach out to Gymnastics@trussville.org and we will connect you with the right person!
Every 4 months we will conduct formal evaluations; however, we will monitor each child’s progression monthly to determine if they need to progress to the next class or not. Remember, gymnastics takes a LOT of time to perfect. It is totally normal and completely expected that an athlete takes multiple months or even years to move up to the next level.
What are the Goal Books?
Each class in the “Big Gym” has a goal sheet where the athletes are tracking the skills that they need to work on. They are reviewing and filling in these sheets every few weeks with their coaches to help track their progress.
Need to drop or change a class?
Our Drop Date is the 15th of each month. If you need to drop your class for any reason, please fill out the form and we will remove your child from class starting the next month. Forms filled out after the 15th will take place the next calendar month. Please see our BAND page for the link to the drop form.
Need to change your class time? Send us an email at gymnastics@trussville.org and we will help you find another time or add you onto the waitlist for another class time.
How can I help my child progress at home?
In between evaluations, if you have any questions on your child’s progress, please reach out to us at gymnastics@trussville.org and we can give you an update on your child.
In general, gymnastics is a very strength and flexibility specific sport. You can always work with your child on stretching and basic strengthening at home. Lots of push ups, sit ups, squats, and stretching their splits, bridge, and pike are all great ways you can help your child!
