Mayor’s Letter

Mayor photoDear Friends:

Nestled in northeast Jefferson County, Trussville is one of the fastest growing cities in the State of Alabama, having grown from a population of 3,507 in 1980 to the current population estimate of 20,150. While Trussville was previously considered a bedroom community, with a progressive City Council, a conscientious Planning and Zoning Board, and an active Industrial Development Board we have achieved a blend of quiet neighborhoods and a strong commercial and industrial base that has expanded at a complimentary pace in order to provide both quality retail facilities and broadened employment opportunities for our citizens.

Trussville is pleased to afford her residents small town hospitality along with the large city conveniences. Trussville is located sixteen miles from downtown Birmingham and the aminities of a large metropolitan area. We are served by Interstate 459 and access to Interstate 59 in four areas. The Norfolk-Southen Railway Service serves the city’s industrial park, and the Birmingham International Airport is only fifteen minutes away. A railroad overpass provides a connection between the north and south sides of the city, uninterrupted by railway traffic.

The City of Trussville owns its own water and gas utility system operated as Trussville Utilities serving over 22,000 customers. The water system has won numerous awards for their operation and water quality, and Trussville Utilities is capable of meeting the needs of the most demanding commercial or industrial consumer, at rates consistently lower than those in surrounding areas.

Trussville offers her citizens an easily accessible municipal complex and excellent police, fire and EMS services. Our most recent addition for the convenience and enjoyment of our citizens is our Trussville Civic Center. This facility contains meeting rooms, an exhibition hall, events catering, strength and cardio exercise equipment, a double gym with walking track above, and much more. For Summer fun you are invited to visit our community swimming pool and splash park, or visit our more than 700 acres of park property, 125 acres of which is developed into a sports complex containing baseball, softball, youth football and soccer fields, tennis courts, and walking and mountain bike trails. The Senior Citizens’ Activity Center provides meals, programs and exercise facilities to this segment of our population. Our public library is networked with libraries all over Jefferson County, and sponsors numerous programs for the community. The schools in Trussville are operated locally as the Trussville City School System, and have won numerous scholastic awards.

Established in 1820 and incorporated into a city in 1947, Trussville is proud of her heritage, and embraces the challenges and possibilities that lie ahead of us.

Sincerely,

Buddy Choat
Mayor, City of Trussville
